If you can avoid areas with Red Tide, we are into the best action of fall. Big trout are easy to locate and catch. The action should be fantastic for seven months. Most trout being caught are 15 to 21 inches long. Our easiest species to catch, trout, are on grassy bottom areas. Water depth from 2 to 6 feet is the usual location to find big numbers of trout. Use light tackle with jigs or heavy topwater lures — topwater lures in shallower water and the jig in deeper areas. Move lures at a steady, slow speed for the best results. With topwater lures, have the lure make short, noisy splashes to attract strikes. The regulations are four trout per angler, 15 to 20 inches. One of your four trout can be over 20 inches.
