As we move into August not much has changed fishing wise and we are at the time when the Gulf water temperature is at it’s highest. I’m going to spill the “beans” and those scallopers who have waited to go later in the season, the south side of the Homosassa channel is where its at. Soon school will start and will move families to prepare for the upcoming cloth shopping and orientation. This will make for less crowded waters and those who would like to have a good time with less people this is the month. On the south side of the channel keep Chassahowitzka Point about 3 miles to your east and anchor over grassy bottom. Hard bottom with sponges and orange brain coral is not as productive. To help for next year any scallop that is small, and I say smaller than a a 1/2 dollar younger anglers may not know that size but if it is less than 2″ leave it and let it spawn in the Fall.
The redfish bite is still the best inshore prospect, the inshore rocks are good for mangrove snapper and white grunts. West of marker #2 I’ve caught a few nice trout with a red jig head and MirrOlure LiL John in bourbon. This weekend incoming tide will be in the morning
