The search for amberjacks is leading the offshore charge for spearfishermen. In the past few weeks, some of our divers have landed amberjacks in excess of 80 pounds in depths less than 110 feet. Bigger jacks will not stay around long, so don’t wait too long to shoot. When a diver is fighting a speared jack, other jacks swarm in. This gives a second diver a good chance at spearing a big fish that has become distracted. This weekend I will be at the Tampa Bay Boat Show presented by the Tampa Bay Times at Tropicana Field, giving a seminar Saturday and Sunday, and available all weekend to help with diving and spearfishing questions.
