The Tampa Bay Times
Capt. Brent Gaskill
Fall is officially here even if it doesn’t feel like it. Hopefully it won’t be long before weather forecasts turn from tropical updates to approaching cold fronts. With these fronts comes cooler weather and some of the best fishing the Tampa Bay area has to offer. Resident species will begin to feed heavily and migratory species will begin passing through on their journey south. Inshore anglers can expect good action from snook, redfish, and trout, while offshore anglers will focus on both Spanish and king mackerel. Until that time, we’ll have to stay on our late summer patterns dealing with the lingering heat and thunderstorms. The good news is that there are currently plenty of fish available of various species. The water has been exceptionally clear for this time of year and the fishing has been good. Plan your trip accordingly and a mixed bag should be the norm.
