The hunt for Reds in October is here.  Luckily, there is no sign of any red tide from the lack of rainfall from this past summer, so redfish have showed up in nice schools.  As in years past, Redfish has showed up in the usual hot spots around the Pinellas Point area. They are showing up in my “secret” spots that very few people know about.  These are places that have had little to no action the past few years. I have spots to fish on a low tide, and I have spots to move to on a high tide.  Low tide spots can be the most difficult to find. When the water gets to low for the fish on the flats, you must figure out where the fish will move to when the water gets to shallow for the fish to swim.  I watch the school’s movement every time and pay attention to which direction they fall off the flat.  After years of watching schools of fish, I have put together a theory of their movements and where they are going based on the tidal flow.  Figure that out and you have a “secret” spot of your own.  The last time that I hit my low tide spot, it yielded big numbers of fish that I haven’t seen in a couple of years.  The water is extremely clear, so have some patience, working these areas thoroughly is the key to finding Reds.
