Summer means nothing this year. The fish are going to eat. They are eating great. For easy action? Speckled trout. They are not smart, they are everywhere. Our most prolific fish: Enjoy! Use medium to light spinning outfits and use the lures of your choice. We use a lot of plastic tails on 1/8-ounce jigheads. Paddle tails are excellent but other lures will work. Topwater lures also work extremely well, particularly to catch the biggest trout, but if floating grass is prevalent, topwater lures are a bad choice. With light outfits you can make long casts to work a lot of water. Trout are usually located over seagrass and they are normally in depths of 3 feet or deeper. The pace of your lure is important. Moody fish can be caught but only if the lures are moved at a critically slow speed, always keeping your lure “just above the bottom.”
