The Tampa Bay Times

With a full moon approaching, this weekend’s tides should provide some good action for redfish.  Low incoming tides have been productive for reds the past few days and bigger high tides by the weekend should allow for plenty of time to pattern the fish.

Targeting schools of mullet that can be found staged up in all the no-motor zone flats along the Intercoastal waterway will put you in the right area, as the tide moves in pay attention to how fast the mullet are making their way up to the mangroves. This will let you know when to it’s time to move up a little.

Extra caution is needed when approaching fish in some of the more popular no-motor zone areas. Setting yourself up to be able to use the wind to assist you in moving into the spot you want to fish, will allow you to use the trolling motor on a very low speed. These fish will track down a weed-less spoon or soft-plastic jerk-bait especially if there’s some cloud cover, however on those post-front blue bird days you’ll defiantly do better using cut pinfish or ladyfish chunks on the bottom.

The spotted seatrout bite has been very good the past couple of days. Lighter winds have helped to clean up the stirred up water from last weeks strong winds. Spoils islands all along the Intercoastal waterway are holding good seatrout. Work top-water plugs early and late in the day and weed less soft-plastics jerk baits through ought the day.
