Last week’s cool down was a much needed one. Unfortunately it did not last long, as temps are soaring back up again. Flats fishing remains good, however mid-day water temperatures are close to 90 degrees in the shallows which eventually is going to slow things down.

Redfish schools have formed leading into this full moon. Target the lower part of the tide around mullet schools. Being patient and letting the redfish come to you is your best bet as these fish have been spooky on the lower water but much easier to find than when the tide is up. Free-lined pilchards will work good at times especially if there are jacks cruising the area. When the jacks start chasing the baits the reds get excited and do the same. Otherwise a live pinfish or cut ladyfish and or threadfins have been working when the surface activity is slow.

Beach going Snook are starting to show up at their typical hot spots for this time of year.  Afternoon outgoing tides are you the best chance at hooking some snook. Pass shoals are known for holding schools of snook all summer long. Free-line live pilchards and grass grunts along sand drop offs, cast well up-current and let your bait drift naturally with the tide.

Spanish mackerel remain thick of area beaches. Target near-shore reefs in 12 to 14 feet of water. Troll small silver spoons behind a 2 ounce trolling sinker for lots of action.
