Central Florida No Fishing Report
Due to the extraordinary weather, I did not fish again this week. We have a central Florida no fishing report. The heater has been running pretty steadily in the Kumiski homestead- I hope everyone is staying warm.
I would again like to wish all my readers a healthy, prosperous, and fish-filled New Year!
Since I have a bad case of cabin fever I am going fishing this week, regardless of the weather. I promise to have an actual fishing report next week.
Upcoming Events
I spent part of my time this week putting together a power point presentation for the Paddle Fishing Seminar to be held at Kayaks by Bo in Titusville on January 27 from 5-7 PM. Tom requests that you make a reservation if you plan on attending- 321-474-9365. I will roughly follow this lesson plan- http://www.spottedtail.com/kayaks-bo-kayak-fishing-seminar-lesson-plan
Book Review
Another thing I did this week was to read Anthony Dimock’s Book of the Tarpon, published in 1911. This is a fantastic piece of work! In the late 1800s Dimock was fishing for big tarpon out of a canoe, using conventional tackle, handlines, harpoons, and fly rods. He spent thousands of hours exploring the Gulf coast from Cedar Key to Florida Bay, catching thousands of tarpon in the process, breaking lots of tackle, and ending up in the water on several occasions. The fish seem to have been more numerous and a lot more aggressive back then!
I could not recommend this book highly enough. https://www.amazon.com/Book-Tarpon-Classic-Reprint
New Book!
Long-time readers of this report may remember that in 2013 Rodney Smith, Mike Conneen, Nick Colantonio, Darryl Benton, and I paddled from JB’s Fish Camp to the Loxahatchee River Center, taking 19 days to do so. This week I published an e-book about the history of the Indian River Lagoon using our trip as a narrative thread. Called The Indian River Lagoon Chronicles, it is available at Smashwords and at Amazon. I am working on getting an actual paper book formatted and hope to have it in a couple of weeks- stay tuned.
And that is central Florida no fishing report.
Life is great and I love my work!
Life is short- Go Fishing!
