If you live in Central Florida, love our great outdoors and have a desire to get off the beaten path, then paddle sports may be just for you. Here in Central Florida, we are never more than moments from great paddling waters! Local communities are becoming more aware of the value these waterways have to locals, recreation and tourism and more care is being taken of them. Luckily, getting your hands on a paddle vessel to enjoy these great local amenities is getting easier too!
For those just getting started and are looking to get out on the water without a huge financial investment or learning curve, a kayak, canoe or paddleboard is an easy way to get your feet wet! These small and easy to transport vessels open up many water based opportunities such as exploring, nature photography, camping, snorkeling and of course my favorite, paddle fishing! Several Central Florida businesses cater to specifically to paddle craft and can help with selecting of the right stuff or pointing you in the right direction.
Local kayak clubs are another great place to start looking for information on different options available and you might even be able to connect with experienced members that can loan you the gear to get out in the water with them to learn firsthand! Speaking from experience, club enthusiasts are usually quite passionate about their chosen pastime and you will find them quite willing to share their experiences and knowledge!
Another alternative to getting out off the beaten path are the many local established businesses that offer kayak, canoe and paddle board rentals. One such local business that offers rentals, as well as one of the best paddling destinations in the state, is Wekiva Island. Park your car, choose your rental and you are on the water! Other businesses offer overnight rentals complete with racks for transportation for those inclined to explore the more remote areas such as the Little Econ River!
Many municipalities actually have started programs to rent paddle craft at an inexpensive rate to get people out on their waters. The City of Casselberry is just one of our local communities offering rentals at several recreational areas including Secret Lake Park! For a few bucks, an afternoon of local water adventure is yours!
It’s never been easier to get outside and see nature on our beautiful Central Florida Waters. New places to launch into our lakes and rivers are being created every day so our local community has access to play and recreate. Newer forms of equipment make for great exercise while exploring and having fun. And getting the gear for a day on the water is becoming more affordable and easier to find too.
