Anglers I wish I could tell you the fish are chewing the bottom out of the boat, you don’t need bait just cast a bare hook and this may be true if the wind would let us go to our favorite spots. My best fishing has been for redfish because there has been no shortage of water on most days you can run right thru the keys or over the top of them with the amount of water stacked up from this south westerly wind flow. The outside redfish I use a cut or live pinfish free lined deep under a mangrove overhang. I watch the line and wait for a slight jump or the line moving against the tide, My clients will reel down and catch up to the fish before setting the hook. On the inside keys , they make more of a wall so the fish will be right against the edge. A free lined cork with a shrimp or pinfish will get the bite. One thing I don’t recall is the amount of sharks eating our caught redfish off the line. I quess every now and again you must pay the tax man.
On days that have allowed me to run to the shallow rocks I’ve been getting mangrove snapper, grunts, flounder, and some keeper sea bass. Live shrimp on a 1/8th oz. is the best bait. High incoming tide this weekend will be early morning or late evening.
