Fishing!

Monday Scott Radloff joined me for what was, for us, some unusual fishing out of River Breeze. Before going to the ramp we went to the bait shop and bought 50 little shrimp for $12.

After launching the boat we went to shipyard canal, where we each deployed one of the shrimp, using an ultralight rod, and #6 bait hook, and a single split shot. Yes, we were fishing for little fish. My first was a small sea robin. Should have photographed it. We ended up getting eight species, with the prizes being a pair of nice pompano that I served for dinner Tuesday night.

Many years ago I had a six foot long Kunan fly rod that was a complete piece of junk. We used it as a wall ornament for about 15 years. It came off the wall over the summer, so I decided to use it again on Wednesday on the Econlockhatchee.

It’s still a piece of junk. It was so bad it was almost fun to use in a perverse way. A sponge rubber spider fooled several fish, all small- bass, bluegills, stumpknockers, redbellies. It was the first cool day of the season and it was fantastic out there.

Friday I scouted the MINWR for the Show and Tell. I had a fishing rod with me, and tossed a plastic shad into a roadside canal a half-dozen times. I got two seatrout, to my complete surprise. That was all the successful fishing that got done though.

Saturday we did the Show and Tell with a small but fun group, spending the day on the refuge talking about fishing. We all learned a few things and I found it a lot of fun.

And that is happy Halloween central Florida Lagoons Fishing Report! Thanks for reading!

Life is great and I love my work!

Life is short- Go Fishing!
