Indian River Lagoon Coast Fishing Report, November 15, 2016

Although fall has genitally brushed Central Florida with cooler temperatures, the winds this past week have been gentle for the most part, days pleasant and the bite  has been strong in the areas I fished. Throughout this past week we have enjoyed great weather and great fishing on the Lagoon Coast, making for some very memorable fishing adventures.

After scouting fish in the Mosquito Lagoon on Tuesday in preparation for my Thursday charter, I managed to find both redfish on the flats and some larger black drum in some deeper locations.  Even though the water levels on the Mosquito Lagoon are still on the high side  and the water clarity somewhat dirty, overall water conditions have shown improvement in the aftermath of Hurricane Mathew.

On Thursday I had the pleasure of spending a day on the water with father and son team Charlie and Chuck Kohout from New Jersey.  Our day started out very slow as we worked the flats for several hours with only a few small sea trout caught, so I reverted to Plan B, find over slot fish in deeper water, which ended up saving the day.  My goal on all of my charters is to put my client on some respectable fish, and I’m not ashamed to do whatever it takes to accomplish this with the exception of diatomite.  After marking some larger fish on my side imaging sonar, both Charlie and Chuck stretched some line on some large black drum using chunked blue crab for bait.

My next fishing adventure was to Sebastian Inlet area on my annual fall Sebastian Inlet vacation.  Typically I like to target flounder during by escape to the south Indian River Lagoon, but our two hour search and the very nice weather compelled me to try something different, and wth some help from an angling friend we managed to locate a very good snook bite.  We also found a very good black drum bite as well.  Although I promote reasonable angling, I do like to eat an occasional fresh fish dinner and it has been a long time since snook has graced my table.

All in all, some very respectable fish were caught this week and it’s looking like favorable weather wil be with us through this next week, so hit the water and catch them up.
