Jim Sutton's fishing report
Top catches: Joey, Brandon and Aaron fished with captain
Scott Tait last week, working the creeks north of the St. Johns River. They
caught eight redfish to 24 inches, four seatrout to 16 inches and six
flounder to 20 inches using mud minnows and finger mullet under float rigs
and on jigs. ... Captain Tony Bozzella guided Will Felner to a mixed bag of
redfish, trout, bluefish, ladyfish and jacks, plugging the Mill Cove area of
the river. ... Captain Jim Oliver fished with Sam, Max and Sue Pearl on the
tip of the jetties at Mayport, taking home 112 whiting and catching several
undersized yellowmouth trout and sea bass... Captain Ronnie Worsham and
Circuit Judge Jeff Morrow were pulling pogies for kingfish just north of the
Mayport Inlet when big tarpon jumped on the bait. The fish pulled off near
the boat after a half hour, but not before they saw what both estimated to
be a 200-pound plus fish. "It looked like a manatee in the water," Morrow
said. |
