Mid May Orlando Area and Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report May 19, 2019
POSTED ON MAY 19, 2019 IN FISHING REPORTS
Even and his father Greg share a Lagoon moment together.
Fishing in the Orlando area and in the Mosquito Lagoon has ranged from good to excellent the past few weeks. The weather has been nice for the most part with exception of a few passing fronts. This past week we experienced exceptional adventures on both the Econ River near Orlando and the Mosquito Lagoon.
As our summer doldrums begin to settle in on Florida’s east central coast, site fishing opportunities have improved. Slick calm weather conditions and clear blue skies are making it easier to see pushing and tailing schools of redfish and black drum on the Mosquito Lagoon flats.
For the past several weeks my focus has been targeting trophy size black drum around the bridges and other structure primarily in the Indian River Lagoon, and preparations for my summer job working as a fishing guide manager at the Katmai Lodge in Alaska. In less than two weeks I will depart Central Florida’s summer heat and exchange it for cool misty mornings on the Alagnak River. Fishing on the Alagnak is an anglers dream with five different runs of happy Atlantic salmon and one of the world’s best trophy rainbow trout fisheries. For those of you wishing to fish with me this summer, you will have to plan a trip of a lifetime in Alaska, or book a trip with Captain Mark Wrightwho will be filling for me here in Central Florida. My stay at Katmai will be just over three months as I will be returning to reality on September 15th. In the meantime, Have a safe and enjoyable summer and continue to follow my adventures of Facebook.
Tight lines always,
Captain Tom Van Horn
