Good weather and great trout fishing as it should be in October. The front this past weekend help usher in a fresh bunch of offshore trout to the near shore waters. The gaps and passes north and south of the Homosassa River are the places to fish. Last week was more of a open bay bite but on the incoming tide position your vessel between two points and target rock grass beds with popping corks and a dark colored jig on a 1/8oz. red lead head. For some fun use a top water plug like the MirrOlure She Dog.
The redfish bite is also very good. This week has been as easy as poling into a bunch of jumping mullet and using a shrimp under a cork to catch a limit in about eight to ten cast. Mid incoming tide is best and the outside keys are the best placing to start searching. The inshore grouper bite is getting hot. Rock from 6 to 12 feet are the best ones. I’ve done well with a D.O.A. Swimmin” Mullet cast and worked just next to the rock . The grouper will run out and take the bait and this is good because the further the fish is from the rock the better. I have been broken off many times working the lure over the structure but it was worth it! High incoming tide will be midday this weekend. W
