This weather is what I would call an Indian Summer. Cool at night and warm days, perfect except we could use a little rain. This weekend was opening day for general gun hunting season. My daughter and I were hunting together on Saturday when a big hog ran right up to us, my daughter thought it was a dog but daddy brought home the bacon. I enjoy hunting with my baby girl and I hope this is her year to harvest her first big game.
The trout bite is holding strong south of the Homosassa channel. The rock grass in 2.5 to 4 feet of water is the place to fish. Some of the biggest fish are hitting D.O.A. 5.5 glow jerk baits and numbers are biting popping corks with a MirrOlure LIL Johns in dark colors. Outgoing tide is best.
The redfish are still on the outside points and creek mouths on the incoming tides. Live or cut bait is good but gold spoons like the Eppinger Rex will cover more water and can be more productive this time of year. Mullet schools are important when searching for productive red fishing. The nearshore rocks are still producing keeper grouper and there are some keeper mangrove snapper being caught in the Homosassa River on live shrimp. Look for a big full moon tide this weekend starting around mid morning. W
