A late cold front has stalled the fishing with windy, chilly conditions but a warm rebound should put the fishing right back on track. There has been a good trout bite between the St. Martins Keys and Mangrove Point. D.O.A. glow 5.5 jerk baits have been working best. As long as there is moving water the trout will bite but incoming tide is best. If there is breezy conditions try a popping cork with a MirrOlure LIL’ John in watermelon red flake with a 1/8 oz. jig head.
The redfish bite has been decent as long as the incoming tide covers the rocks with about 24” of water. The high tide seems to concentrate the redfish and trout on the points. On low tide the reds are scattered but can be sight casted if it is a calm and clear day. Live shrimp has been the best bait and Ozello is the best area. The near shore rocks have spanish mackerel on them. Use a chum block to bring them to the boat. High incoming tide will be in the afternoon this weekend. Happy Easter! Capt. William Toney
