I can say that Labor Day weekend lived up to it’s name. I haven’t ripped out wet carpet, tossed out personal belongings or been this fatigued and gross feeling since the No Name Storm in 1993. The good news is that my family and community of Homosassa is good and safe. No one that I know of was hurt. Sunday night, MacRae’s had live music, River Side Resort had a little more water but will be up soon, the Freezer was standing room only, The Old Mill was serving food and drink. Our town is like an ant mound, kick it , come back in a few minutes and we will have it just the way it has always been. We are proud and resilient people and to be realistic this will not be the last storm we will face but we pray please not another one for a while.
On todays charter we did a half day and had 11 trout before noon on MirrOlure LiL’ Johns and D.O.A CAL Shads under popping corks. The best colors were new penny and avocado red glitter. South of the river mouth was the best area. Look for rock grass on the high outgoing tide for the best bite. The redfish bite was poor this afternoon (Tuesday). Fellow Homosassa Guides Association members fished the incoming tide and caught a limit but worked hard for it. Not many mullet were seen west of Ozello. I believe things need another day to get right and our schooling reds will be back.
A few folks went scalloping today and one boat had 8 gallons. They were BIG scallops and harvested west of St. Martins Keys in 3 foot of water. Incoming tide this weekend will be early morning. W
