Deeper water is most of the action has been. To find trout, sea bass, spanish mackerel, flounder head west. Eight to twelve feet is the range to use MirrOlure LiL’ Johns jigged vertically off the bottom. If the conditions are calm with a slow drift, work the bait very slowly near the bottom. Dark grass bottom hold the most trout and broken yellow bottom will have the mix of other fish. Back inshore redfishing has been OK with lots of small fish being caught on the incoming high tide. Live shrimp and pinfish is the best bait. Cut bait can also be productive coming into the warmer months because the way warm water can disperse scent better. Cut mullet, ladyfish and lizard fish are some of the best. A few tarpon have been caught south of Homosassa but it’s not game on yet. Look for high incoming tide this weekend early morning and late evening.
