With a big three day weekend coming expect lots of anglers and boaters on the water. Most of the fishing action has been good on the rocks out to 20 feet. Shrimp on the bottom will catch grunts, sea bass, mangrove snapper, flounder, spanish mackerel and hog fish. Cobia could show up at anytime while fishing on the structure so be prepared with a heavy spinning rod with a live pinfish. Gag grouper are plentiful and fun to catch but must be released. Inshore the redfish are eating pinfish on the incoming tide and trout are in deeper channels running west from predominate creek or river mouths. On the safe boating side be sure to let the person who has the most experience run the vessel, stay to your right as much as possible when rounding blind corners so if a vessel is on the other side there is room for each of you, check behind your vessel on occasion to see if another boat is behind you and the same for a following vessel to leave enough space to maneuver or avoid if the boat ahead slows down. Idle zones mean idle. They are in place to protect shoreline erosion, peoples vessels and there are marinas with fuel docks. A rocking vessel while being fueled can spill oil or gas in the river and nobody needs that happening. On Memorial Day please remember and honor our United States Armed Forces members who gave all. We have a Memorial Day Ceremony in Old Homosassa that starts at 10 am on west Yulee Drive at our Veteran’s Memorial. High incoming tide will be in the morning this weekend.
