Prime time redfishing is happening here on the Big Bend. As I always preach, western facing points on the incoming tide are good starting points. Lets leave the easy catching reds behind and talk about some other fish to round out your Labor Day weekend. Trout were up in shallow waters but due to heavy rains it’s more of a deep water game now. The waters west of Marker 2 off Homosassa or south west of Crystal River 2A are the area’s to fish. Use a 1/8 oz. red jighead with a MirrOlure LiLJohn in bourbon. If this weekend turns out to be windy and not a good idea to run deep there are a few fish on the pole line south of the Homosassa River, west of St. Martins Keys and near Gomez Rock. The shallow rocks are good for some action with spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper and grunts. Live shrimp is the best bait. For offshore anglers looking for grouper, its been slow so chum the rock with plenty of live pinfish to get the bite going. There has been a few cobia also showing up. High incoming tide will be in the afternoon this weekend, Have a safe and great Labor Day.
