Looking at another windy cold weekend and it seems to me this happens most every year. Winters last breath but the cool water helps prolong our spring fishing, trust me it will be warm enough very soon. River fishing remains one of the best choices with cold weather and I had some success this past weekend using live shrimp on the bottom near deep drop- offs by the channel. The only problem I’ve experienced fishing the rivers is there is no common courtesy from fellow boaters who blast past with no regard from they’re boats wake. A boater is responsible for their wake, just watch our stone crabbers and shrimpers who do a great job slowing down for folks fishing. On March first anglers can keep one snook per person, with no captain take and you must have a snook stamp. The slot is 28″ to 33″ with the tail pinched. I’ve had some good luck catching them in the rivers around docks, blow downs and rock walls. A great lure for river snook is the MirrO’lure MirrOdine. A outgoing tide is best and I’ve also caught a few on the outside keys but this weekends cold front will most likely push them back towards warmer water. High incoming tide this weekend will be dark in the morning and dark in the evening.
