Great fishing continues on the Big Bend. We have a few new fish to chase that are seasonal to us. Cobia are moving north and will pass through with the warming water temperatures. Cobia up in the shallows are not usually as big as the fish out deep but provide some great fun. On the flats look for large stingrays cobia like to shadow them as with jacks. A small jig on light tackle or 8wt. fly rod is a fun way to sight cast for them. An angler must be prepared because you never know when a keeper may be available and if hooked be ready to follow the fish. On my charters I’ve had anglers put quite a few in the boat on light tackle by following the fish and keeping the boat between a crab buoy or marker. Triple tail have moved into the darker waters of river mouths and channels. They love old crab buoys on the moving tides. A float with a shrimp 12 inches under it cast past and let it drift up to the buoy will get the bite. The size of a keeper triple tail is 18″ and there is a lot of small fish out there so be ready for the bite so they do not swallow the hook. Incoming tide will be in the late morning this weekend.
