With a week of rain and windy weather has put a decent trout bite on south of the Homosassa River. Trout are low light feeders so cloudy skies with some chop helps the bite. Outgoing tide is best and popping corks help the trout home in on your jig. Redfishing remains steady on the incoming tide on the outside keys. Live shrimp or cut mullet works best for bait. Almost every piece of structure from 3 foot out to 12 has some nice size mangrove snappers on it. That’s a good thing because with the rough weather you don’t have to run out deep to catch them. Mangrove snappers are excellent eating fun to catch on light tackle. Live shrimp is the best bait and I use a 1/8th oz. chartreuse jighead to hook them on tail first. Once the bite begins I like to keep all the lines in the water because the snapper will get competitive. Take a picture when the bite is over, it can end as fast as it started. Incoming tide will be in the afternoon this weekend.
