As our Gulf water temperatures start their slow cooling process we will experience a few more species passing through that we haven’t seen since late spring. Spanish mackerel, blue fish and cobia are a few of them. One of my favorites is the triple tail. They are a fish that love crab buoys, markers, floating trash and grass piles. I always keep an eye out whenever I run by floating structure to see if one is laying on it’s side or horizontal even with the rope on the buoy. The easiest way to catch them is to use a cork with about 15″ of fluorocarbon and a 1/8 oz. jighead with a live shrimp. The cork allows you to adjust the drift of the bait so that it will pass very close to the fish. If you get to close they will move and your shot will be over. Darker water is best to find them. Incoming high tide will be in the morning this weekend.
