Starting September 1st you can legally harvest snook on the Big Bend and north of the Anclote River. Anglers must have a snook stamp (endorsement ) the snook slot is 28″ to 33″ and one per angler. If you are on a for hire charter the captain and crew do not count. To catch snook on a artificial lure use a top water plug or jerk bait early at first light or late evening. Night fishing can be very productive around lighted docks. High outgoing tide works best for me. The outside keys have some big schools of snook and some anglers will chum with live bait to catch them. Redfishing remains very good, western face points with mullet are good places to target. A great fall bait is a gold spoon. You can really cover some area with a gold spoon because they cast so far. I will fan cast an area to find the fish and my retrieve is pointing the rod tip down with a steady reeling back to the boat. The wobble of the spoon is the only action you need. I like to use a small split ring with a small swivel on the spoon to prevent line twist. Trout fishing is getting better even though our waters are still tea stain to the south of the Homosassa River. A popping cork with a dark soft plastic is what I’ve been getting my limit on. If I catch two fish within a 50 yard stretch then I mark that area and stick with it. Incoming tide will be mid day this weekend.
