A short and sweet one this week. After a gas burning run out to 12 or 14 feet in search of cobia, I had no luck. Even some of my best mangrove snapper and grunt spots produced nothing but some small gag grouper and spot tails. Not even a spanish mackerel. Although I couldn’t find one a couple anglers did get lucky this week catching cobia the largest was 25lb. and was caught on a small catfish. Yep I said small catfish. The trout bite has been good in the open bays along shallow bars on the outgoing tide. I’ve been using a 1/8 oz. jig head with a MirrOlure Provoker in red or red flake gold and also in pumpkinseed. The bite is good until the tide slows and when it turns in the bite is over. The redfishing has been best on the last hour of the incoming tide and the one’s I’ve been catching are on the near shore keys. A cork with a live shrimp is the best bait. Incoming tide will be at first light or late evening this weekend.
