Buying local and establishing a relationship with a business that compliments your own business helps build something that most self employed people understand. Gulf Coast Marine Service in Old Homosassa has been on the corner of Yulee Dr. and Mason Creek Rd. for 45 years. Please don’t take this as a outboard ” better than the other” it’s far from it. Skip and Mrs. Linda’s marine service has always been about community service, helping boaters regardless of product on the stern and being pillars of our town. I can share one story, out of the many that they have helped me through the years but this was when I was in my teens before driving age and had set up a bass tournament with my 7th grade buddy’s. One of the rules was if your late your disqualified. The 25 Evinrude I had would not start and I had pulled on it until there was no skin left between my pointer and bird finger. The situation was dire but Skip and my father shown up, Skip worked his magic and away I sped to Homosassa Seafood to get the tournament going. Over the years this has repeated itself in many ways, some easy and some expensive but in my career as a professional guide I could not got to the place I am now with out Gulf Coast Marine. If your want to scallop along the Big Bend and are considering trailering your own vessel to this area, take this into consideration. Fuel with the truck and boat /trailer will be expensive, got to fight the crowds at the ramp, cleaning up and worrying about your vessel in inclement weather is no fun. A USCG qualified, insured local guide can take the work out of a family, friend or serious scalloping trip. Just food for thought. High incoming tide will be in the afternoon this weekend.
