There are two months that I feel don’t get the respect of the other ten of our year. August being one of the hottest and February being one of the coldest. Both month’s I’ve had some of the best days fishing but with that being said it can depend on the day you go. August is a hot month no doubt, but what I love is the first full moon because it kicks off the time on the Big Bend when redfish will school up. In my area anglers like to fish the Spoil Banks in Crystal River for over slot fish but western facing points between Chassahowitzka and Hagen’s Cove can be some of the best redfish action of the year. The updated regulations will maintain our stocks of redfish for future generations and preserve our west coast fisheries for years to come with one redfish per angler and no for hire take starting September 1st. Mangrove snapper and grunts are still one of my go to fish after catching redfish. Inshore structure or rocks in 6 to 12 feet are holding both of them. If you do not have any GPS numbers I caught some decent mango’s casting live shrimp to the Homosassa channel markers out past Hell’s Half Acre. Depending on the structure there could be a few spanish mackerel. Look for glass minnows on the surface for the best results. Incoming high tide will be in the morning this weekend .
