With most of my catches being trout this past week because of low tides, this coming week looks to be a little better as far as tides go for redfishing. When the Big Bend has a good incoming tide it will concentrate the redfish on the rocky western points and keys. This time of year I also have good luck catching them in the backcountry free lining a shrimp underneath a cork down a long shoreline. Spotting some jumping mullet or seeing them dimpling on the surface will indicate a good spot to try.
On low water the exposed rocks will warm up with the sun and as the high tide covers them I’ve been catching some nice trout sunning on top of them. I’ve been using the D.O.A. 5.5 glow jerk baits. Some of the deeper holes and channels have had some pompano. I like to chum the spot a little as I’m fishing for them by breaking the tails off of the shrimp and threading them on a 1/8 oz. jig head tail first. Use the tails for chum. If you start catching ladyfish and spanish mackerel then there are probably pompano there. High incoming tide will be midday this weekend.
