A nice week of warm weather has made a great time in late winter to get out and catch some fish. Trout are number one on the inshore scene with most fish being taken from rocky outside points during the incoming high tide. Move slowly along when searching for trout because they are in tight schools. Capitalizing on concentrated fish means being prepared to stop the vessel and be quit in the process. A few red fish have been mixed in with the trout and also ready to take an artificial bait. The deeper parts of the major creeks and rivers are holding pompano and mackerel. Fresh shrimp jigged in slowly on a 1/8 chartreuse jig head will get the bite. This Thursday 7pm February 21st join me at the Homosassa Civic Club for a seminar on fishing Homosassa 101. I enjoy answering anglers questions about tides, conditions, seasons and how to about the Nature Coast. There will be a 50/50 raffle for a subscription to In The Spread (www.inthespread.com) and lure hand outs. This Sunday February 24 come down to MacRaes of Homosassa for the annual Homosassa Guides Association Fish Fry starting at 12 pm. Incoming high tide this weekend will be early morning or late evening.
