All fishing is hot, and it is variety time for certain. We are jigging pompano, throwing topwater lures for trout, catching redfish, having some fun with species like Spanish mackerel, bluefish and huge jacks. Hard-pulling fish, great fun without question, enjoy the variety of action October has to offer. Redfish is exact technique in exact locations. All the others are possibilities everywhere you go, staying in water that is deeper than the redfish. For pompano, best on pompano jigs with a fly teaser. Biggest speckled trout on topwater lures. Mackerel, bluefish and jacks are available nearly everywhere around Tampa Bay and will eat pretty much anything they see. Topwater lures for trout is easy. Target areas with grass bottom about 2 feet deep. For redfish, about 11/2 feet of water and also grass bottom — they are active and easy to catch compared to the previous months where the water was so hot. For other species, just cast whatever you have at them and you will catch them. It is that simple.
