October has arrived and so has some awesome weather! Air and water temperatures have began to cool and everything is turned on! Flounder have begun moving out toward the pass and can be targeted with live or artificial bait around drop offs, sand holes, and just about any type of structure in the bays. Reports of the trout bite have been good, however, this time of year when I’m on the water you will find me chasing reds up in the shallow clear water, sight fishing, or throwing at fish as they tail and crawl around with their backs out of the water! It won’t be long and the reds and trout will begin to make their way toward bayou’s and backwater creeks as the water temperatures continues to cool.

In the bays and nearshore, not much has changed since last month. The bait is thick and everything is biting. Just about anything you want to catch can be targeted this time of year with live bait in the bays, near and offshore.

If this nice weather holds, the rest of October should be fantastic! Sight fishing in the backwaters and off the beaches will be on fire and should keep both spinning and fly anglers busy!

For all you fly guys, if you have been wanting to target some reds up in the skinny, crystal clear water now is your chance. Reds have been fairly easy to find and lucky for us they have been hungry!
