Well it’s still HOT but it won’t be long until the temperatures start cooling off a bit along with the water and the bite will keep getting better and better as we move into October. The King bite off the beach and nearshore has been on fire! Trolling and free lining live or dead bait has produced great results. I have had good reports of nice catches of snapper as well as other fish offshore. In the bays, the water is still a little stained from the rain but you can easily sight fish reds in any of the bays around Panama City.
The redfish bite has been awesome, especially on top water! There are area’s that have a lot of floating grass that can cause problems with top water baits but don’t get discouraged, find some flats with broken bottom of sand and grass from 1 to 3” early in the morning and late in the evening and you should be able to have a blast! I always look for sign’s of life, rays, mullet, bait fish, and even birds diving or working a bank are all good signs that there should be fish in the area. My clients have also put some really nice keeper trout in the boat lately and again the majority of trout have also been caught on top water.
Sight fishing is no problem right now, in fact, a little stain and cloudiness to the water increases the hook up rate a lot of times. My fly fishermen have done well on reds and even got into some nice Spanish mackerel out in the bay which is always a blast on fly! Remember, October through the winter is an excellent time to be in Panama City Beach fishing. The weather is usually
awesome, it’s not as crowded on the beach, and the fish are biting!
