Product review prepared by Neil Taylor, Strike Three Kayak Fishing.

Use what I use:  You will be pleased.   The Avid rod is the very favorite of my clients.     I have a Lamson Speedster reel on my Avid Fly.     The client, if they don’t have one already, usually go and get one after using mine.    When it comes down to it:  For the price, this is my first choice.

Avid Fly Rod

I can attest, with my experiences as a guide and angler that if something says “St Croix” on it, it is something that is not only going to perform pretty well, it is going to hold up incredibly well.    I can also attest, if it as the word “Avid” in it, you are going to really like it.   Laying in the same price range as their spinning rods and other products, the Avid is not a “starter rod” but more upper end, yet still not as expensive as other options they have.

A St Croix product, the construction is solid.   Performance is excellent.     Like everything with the St Croix name on it, it is quality equipment and value for your investment.  Casting is easy, line management is easy.    Fishing with this rod is better than with other options.

This is the favorite rod of my clients.    I have three different rods for fly fishing.  All of them do very well.    The Avid is mid-range in price and seems to have the most appeal overall with all the fly rod choices.

Here are their offerings in this series of fly rods:
