After poling my canoe a short distance a tail pops up out of nowhere and
it is a HUGE Redfish. After careful observation I noticed several more
in that same area. It is a school working their way off the flats,
grubbing for breakfast. I motioned to Ken and set him up on a school
nearby.
The fish is finaly at hand after what seemed like an eternity. My
estimate that the figt lasted a good 15 minutes but who is to say. Time
stops when you are hooked onto one of these bad boys. I love Redfish!
These fish are hungry and we had quite a few takes. The one Ken has
inhaled a Whatchamacallit pretty deep.
I got off the phone with Ken a few hours ago. He has gone out by
himself as I am busy today behind this computer trying to keep the
business running. Ken told me of the mornings success so far, three Reds
and a couple of nice Snook. When we meet up later, I am looking forward
to hear how the rest of the day went.
Forecast: It seems we are going to get into the cooler months soon.
The rain we have had the past two weeks pushed things forward by at
least a month. The cooler water and ideal tides during the early part of
September all the way through winter will bring a lot of Redfsih like
the one Ken is holding. A LOT OF REDFISH!
Snook will probably start moving soon in the next month or so. The
beaches will bring good activity, but the flats with a fly rod is going
to be king from here on out. Trout will move in as well and all this
rain runoff will certainly accelerate their activity.
Book soon and tight lines!
