As 2016 comes to a close, the fishing still resembles a Fall situation in the Tampa Bay area. Fantastic weather dominated the past week (again) and it was another very busy week with time out on the water.

The action for large trout is definitely good, if you go to the right spots.    It will be very good a lot of the time between now and early May.  Best bait choice: The 12 Fathom SlamR.

Redfish we have gotten into fairly well:   Sometimes fickle, the best action has been at midday (for some reason).

Daily we are catching other species like flounder, bluefish and ladyfish.    If you wanted to you could easily target sheepshead right now but you won’t get them on lures.   Not a lot of flounder but there are still a few here.

Toss in opportunities for silver trout and whiting and you have the whole gambit for early January fishing right in front of you.   We can only hope the weather stays the same.     Tougher weather situations?  Down the creeks.    If steady weather, the fish will be in springtime locations.    They have not been moved significantly by recent fronts.    Be ready to adjust.    Be ready to keep doing things the same.      There is no telling what January will have to offer.

Best wishes for a Happy New Year!

As always: Be careful out there!
