Still not getting any reports of the full-on Dolphin season that is coming soon. Charters and private boats that are looking for Mahi are finding a few or five or maybe a dozen Dolphin in the 450 to 600 foot range. Keith Sullivan brought some cronies down from Brevard county and they ran out and found ten school size Dolphin and a few Blackfin Tuna on their 25 foot boat. |
Reefs: |
Captain Wes King on his Expedition boat released a Sailfish and put a couple nice Mutton Snapper in the box for dinner. Captain Jack on his Shake n Bait charter boat out of PCI on a rough day caught Mutton and Yellowtail Snapper and Kingfish. As Grouper season opened on May 1st Captain Jack put his fare on some nice Black Grouper and Snapper. Captain Jeremy out of Whale Harbor Marina took his 22 foot bay boat out and caught a couple of Black Grouper. Hogfish season also opened May 1st with a daily bag limit if one fish measuring 16 inches to the fork. |
Gulf and Bay: |
The seatrout bite is great all over Florida bay. The north central area within sight of the mainland has been especially good. Drifting off color water and jigging is the ticket for success with the Trout. Captain Lou Brubaker fished a Mangrove lined creek and found Mangrove Snapper, Trout, Snook and Jacks to keep his clients busy. |
Flats, Backcountry and Flamingo: |
Captain Fred out of Smugglers Cove Marina has been finding some Snook in the Flamingo area. Bamboo charters have been Trout fishing and getting some Redfish in the Everglades. Captain Mark Johnson found some juvenile Bonefish and they caught six one outing. The Tarpon results are good with more bites coming in darkness. Captain Vinnie Biondoletti has been booked up solid and getting Tarpon bites and releases most trips in the channels. In the channels there are also lots of big Jack Crevalle eating Mullet intended for Tarpon |
