Offshore:
The weekend of the 10th was the 7th Annual Ladies Dolphin Tournament. Results of the Tournament were great. Largest Dolphin weighed was 43.1 pounds. The 31 boats carrying 78 anglers netted many Dolphin over thirty pounds. But the Dolphin seemed to shut down early last week. Many Charters ran off over 25 miles with meager results throughout the week. Come Friday the migration returned, and Charters found Dolphin in big numbers. Captain Rob on the Southern Comfort boxed thirty Mahi on Friday. The Dee Cee, Doghouse and Shake n Bait among others had big catches of Dolphin late week. Blackfin Tuna were biting on the Islamorada Hump and on wind slicks under birds.
Reefs:
Most of those who anchored on the reef had nice catches of Yellowtail Snapper. Captain Billy on his Vera Vita put a limit of Snapper in the box on a half day last week. There have been some Permit on the reef wrecks also.
Gulf and Bay:
In the Gulf there have been reports of good action on Mangrove Snapper and Seatrout. Up in Florida Bay the Tarpon are still in good supply and there are Sharks mixed in just to create a little havoc. Guides have been catching Snapper in the drains and channels in the bay also. Captain Skip Nielson caught a huge Goliath Grouper out back one trip.
Flats, Backcountry and Flamingo:
Tarpon are in good numbers in and adjacent to the channels in the Islamorada area. Morning or late afternoon trips where part of the trip is in low light is the popular way to do it. Captain John Gargan has been Tarpon fishing the evenings with dead bait and catching every time. In the Flamingo area there are reports of good Snook, Redfish, Tarpon and Trout. Captain Vinnie out od Bud and Mary’s Marina got into a bunch of nice Tripletail out in the cape sable area.
