The water is finally starting to clear back up after the blow from the hurricane. I am not seeing any signs of Red Tide from Pass-a-Grille South and throughout the Fort De Soto area. It looks like we will stay in our summer-like pattern for at least another week or so. With water temperature still in the upper 80s, try to fish early or later in the day. Good moving water will be key to a successful fishing trip this week. Bait is loaded all over the beaches, flats, and fishing piers. It continues to be a mixed bag of sizes. Use a quarter-inch stretch cast net for now. If constant action is what you are looking for, head to one of Tampa Bay’s many shoals. Most of them are just off the shipping channels in 8 feet of water or less. These shoals hold a lot of bait, which brings in the predators. Big schools of jacks, Spanish mackerel, and blacktip sharks are being caught. This makes for a lot of fun, especially for kids. Snook have not made the full transition into their winter homes. The best bite has been on the outgoing tide. With the low water, look for them to hold in deeper holes on or around the grass flats. With so much bait on the flats, you may have to try different techniques to entice a bite.
