Not a whole lot to write about this week. If you’re looking for some of the best inshore action use a MirrOlure LiL John and head out into the 8 to 10 foot range. I like to fish the deeper grass for trout and as you’re drifting there are patches of hard bottom with an occasional rock pile that is good for sea bass, grunts and small gag grouper. White grunts are great eating and to target them anchor near the rocks and use live shrimp on a 1/8 jig head. I pinch the tail off the shrimp and thread them on the tail first. Keep the bait close to the rocks if it drifts into the grass you will get picked off quickly by small porgys and pinfish.
This week there have been a few boat incidents from crashing the docks, high speed mangrove crashes and boats falling off trailers. As we head toward Memorial Day Weekend, be aware that not everyone has lots of boating experience. From the ramp to the water stay sober, beware of crowded areas, weather and a good float plan is easy to do. Whenever I head out of cell phone range I always text my wife with the area I’m going to and when I head back into cell range I text her I’m back inshore. A float plan is good to use but also make sure all safety equipment is onboard and in good working order. Incoming tide will be in the afternoon this weekend
